About Homes for Huskies

Homes For Huskies Rescue Inc is based in Melbourne, Victoria. We are a dedicated group of volunteers committed to saving the lives of Siberian Huskies who are unwanted or where exceptional circumstances prevail that their owners can no longer look after them.

Homes For Huskies Rescue Inc advertise our dogs on Petrescue and Facebook to secure forever loving homes that understand and love the unique breed.

We are a small but growing rescue and have rescued and rehomed many Siberian Huskies since starting in 2014 and, with your support, endeavour to rescue many more.

We take surrendered or impounded Siberian Huskies when possible and place them in foster care in loving private homes where they are assessed to better match them with their prospective furever homes and to rehabilitate them if required to achieve a successful rehoming.

We can also assist with the private re-homing of dogs where the dog is able to continue to reside with the original owner until a suitable home can be found.

All our Huskies will be fully vet worked while in our care which includes Desexing, Micro Chiping, C5 Vaccination, Heartworm test and treatment and internal and external parasite treatments.

The adoption cost of our dogs is used to cover the operating cost of our foster and veterinary care, transportation and other such expenses incurred in rescuing and rehoming Siberian Huskies. Also to assist in the ongoing costs of rescuing Siberian Huskies in need as we rely on donations from the public as we get no government funding.

How we started

In 2016, we got a phone call that quickly turned into a road trip to country NSW to pick up a little family. Mum Kiara had just had six pups and they all needed help. These huskies arrived in Melbourne malnourished, with mange, fleas and worms and were in the worst condition we’ve ever seen, taking eight hours just to get them cleaned up. We rolled up our sleeves and got to work, welcoming Sansa, Arya, Ghost, Summer, Khaleesi and Nova and with mum Kiara.

The arrival of Kiara and her pups marked the first Homes for Huskies rescue. DearĀ Kiara had the saddest eyes you have ever seen, and a week later, we also rescued the pups’ dad Balto and half sister Lacie.

We were blessed with an amazing foster family who had plenty of breed and fostering experience, and their road to recovery and pathway to happiness began. The pups to heal, their sores began to disappear and after few months in foster care, the pups really came out of their shell.

When the dogs were well, happy, thriving and ready, the pups, their mum, dad and half sister all found their perfect furrever homes, and we’ve stayed in touch with their families.

This story has a very happy ending, but in reality it showed the need for many more rescues and perfect endings.

This was just a beginning for Homes for Huskies. Since that road trip into country NSW, we’ve experienced the highs and lows, worked with some incredible rescue members and families, butĀ  seeing the fluffy kids in their forever homes and hearing all their goods news, makes every difficult moment so worth it!
