The main thing we look for in foster carers is understanding of the breed and commitment to provide the dog with best possible care. Some of the dogs come into our rescue with a sad past, and it takes time to rebuild their trust. Foster carers need to be patient but persistent to ensure the dog can be rehabilitated. We will support you along the way by providing advice, and arranging training if required. Our goal is to make your foster care experience enjoyable and rewarding and ensure you are fully supported along the way.

Foster families provide a rescue dog a loving and safe home for a period of time until they find their forever home. You need to make sure you can give the dog enough attention, exercise and invest time into their training if required.

The length of the foster dogs stay in a foster home varies significantly and there is no way to determine how long they will need a foster.  Some stay in foster homes anywhere from a few days to several months. If at any time you need assistance with taking care of your foster furkid (going on vacation, etc) we will provide them with a place to stay while you are gone.  Additionally, if you can no longer foster for any reason, we ask that where possible you give us 3 weeks notice to find another suitable foster home.

Homes for Huskies Rescue Inc will cover all financial obligations. We will pay for all the medical and veterinary expenses, food, collar, leash and tag.

Some of our carers are happy to cover the cost of food for their foster dog which enables the rescue to use that money for saving other dogs and other rescue related costs. This is a choice not an expectation.

As a foster home for Homes for Huskies Rescue Inc, you will need to provide, meals, basic training, exercise and love for the dog.  We will provide you with everything else you need. We ask that you provide us with regular updates on your foster dog so that we can use this information to find them a suitable home.

Firstly, to apply to become a foster carer you need to complete and application on our website https://homesforhuskies.org.au/foster/ We will need you to send through the photos of your backyard/fencing to make sure it is suitable to host a husky.

Once we receive your application, one of our members will be in contact with you to discuss your application further. We will also need to conduct a yard inspection if you decide to proceed with your application, and become a foster carer.

Once formalities are done, we will look at matching you to the dog that will be most suitable for you based on your circumstances.

We understand that life events may happen that require a dog to be moved immediately, we ask where possible to give as much notice as possible about when you are no longer able to foster so that we can prepare for the animal’s transition. 

If your foster needs to go to the vet, Homes for Huskies Rescue Inc will cover all veterinary expenses.  More details on this will be provided to you if you become an approved foster home.

Dogs that come into Homes for Huskies Rescue Inc are on a wide spectrum of training.  Some dogs require little to no training, while other dogs (especially very young dogs, or dogs who have never been a family pet) require more training.  The rescue will be there to provide guidance and support on training your foster dog. If more expertise is needed we have trainers that we work with that we will connect you with.  We know that foster families have different abilities in regards to time and commitment, we ask that you put in as much time as possible training your foster dog as this makes them more adoptable.

Many people who currently own dogs, foster with Homes for Huskies Rescue Inc.  Your current dogs must be up to date on all vaccinations and be spayed/neutered.  Exposing your dog to other animals is always a health risk, rather that be on walks, in the park, or at the vet.  If you dog is up to date on vaccinations and is healthy the risk is minimal.

Great! We have had a lot of fosters adopt their foster dogs. Fosters are given first priority in the case of adoption if this is the most suitable home for them.

No, but we do need your help.  Once the dog has settled in your care we will ask you to complete a small questionnaire about your foster dogs personality, likes and dislikes ect. This will be used to create a profile written by one of our writers to advertise the dog for adoption. We may also ask you to take photos for the adoption profile. Foster dogs need to be made available for adoption meets and greets with successful adoption applicants.

We do not ask that you have these meets and greets in your home, but we will need you to be able to take them to ‘meet and greets’ organised by the rescue. One of our experienced team members attend and facilitate the meet and greet.

We can provide everything you need – crate, blankets, food and medical care. You provide a safe and secure home where rescue dog will be loved and cared for until they find their forever family.

We will be there to support you through your fostering journey by via phone/email or our private Facebook group. Our goal is to make your foster care experience enjoyable and rewarding and ensure you are fully supported along the way.
